Top Ten Most Anticipated Movies of 2016

Now I said that yesterday was a tough choice; well, this is the fourth year I've made one of these lists, and I've got to say, this has been the toughest one to write yet.  There is actually a tonne of really interesting looking stuff in the pipeline at the moment, but, I'm happy with what I've gone with in the end.  Wasting no time, here are the honourable mentions…

Top Ten Movies of 2015

Got to admit; this has been a tough call to make, I've done a lot of hmmming and haaaing over this one, since it's been a vintage year in a lot of respects, with a lot of fantastic stuff coming out.  It's also not been helped that there are quite a few really big things coming out fairly late in the year to consider as well.  What's interesting is that this year has seen a bundle of classic franchises coming out of mothballs to really fantastic commercial and critical success, and you'll see examples of that below.  In fact, that's just with movies; we've had awesome new Danger Mouse, Clangers and Thunderbirds on TV this year too.  I'm a tiny person again!  But as for movies, as I said, tough choice, so let's start with a lot of honourable mentions...

Top Ten Looking Forward to in 2015 - How did they do?

It's that time of year again!  Now yes, I usually do these lists on the run up to Christmas rather than New Years, but well, one fairly significant release came out recently, and I wanted the chance to see that before setting the main top ten in stone, so we're pushed back to today.  For those that haven't seen this blog before (the many, many of you), each year I do top ten movies of the year, and top ten movies I'm looking forward to next year.  So for the first of the traditional troika, I'm looking at last year's "looked forward" to list, and seeing how they turned out.

The ABCs of Death 2

So a long while ago I did a little review of portmanteau project The ABCs of Death.  Well, there's a sequel I've finally caught up on now, so why not have a look at that too.  The basic idea is the same; a group of twenty five directors are each given a small budget, a random letter from the alphabet and the mission statement of making a five minute max short based around something that starts from that letter (the twenty sixth one was an open contest; best entry got in the film).  This time they're all set out with nice little ghoulish animations with an undead teacher, very Edmund Gorey.  Let's go through them one by one, with their directors...

Terminator: Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins

So this week I went to see Terminator: Genesys at a press screening.  I've already done a more formal review of the film here, so for my basic thoughts look here (summary: IT SUCKS!!!!!).  This is more just me having a far more SPOILER filled rant discussing why I really thought it was bad, and how much damage this has done to the Terminator franchise.  I should mention for the record that this absolutely has nothing to do with me being bitter about us losing the Sarah Connor Chronicles, despite the fact IT STILL HUR- ahem, let's carry on shall we?
